Welcome to Nomss!
I am often asked, why I started Nomss? Why I blog or why I am a food blogger? And how do you make money from blogging? The initial stages of my blogging journey was to simply try different restaurants and share my experiences. Nomss has become by creative outlet for writing and photography. No, I do not make much money from blogging. So I began looking deep into how to monetize your blog.
Blogging is Hard Work.
It is a lot of hard work to create income from a website. Blogging is a full time job (on top of another full time job). It takes a lot of time planning and developing content to keep readers engaged. I often ask myself, how can I grow Nomss? How to turn Nomss traffic into dollars? Because while it is completely awesome going to media events and Yelp Elite shindigs, it doesn’t quite pay for my mortgage.
How to Monetize Your Blog
Like all of you with a question, Google is my best friend. Through my research, I look to other bloggers for insight and learn from their struggles. The struggle is real. Power bloggers like Lindsay and Bjork from Pinch of Yum and Kristen from The Endless Meal are incredibly helpful and transparent about what works for them. I look to see what fits in with the visions at Nomss and what can be adapted. And I would like to share my experiences and help any blogger from my experiences!

One disappointing thing about Foodie Blogroll is the lack of control over the design and branding decisions. Sometimes, the ad genres are aligned; sometimes a monster truck will appear. I do not like an ad heavy website, landing page, or full sidebar. Call it my aesthetic responses to art if you will. But I do not believe that a sidebar should be a dumping ground for ads.
Other Publishing Networks and Affiliate Links
There are so many other publishing networks like BlogHer Publishing Network. I have not yet tried it yet, but shall report back soon. VigLink is new affiliate link service that I will be experimenting with right now. Basically it scans your page for keywords and turns them into affiliate links.
In the meantime, we have began using CoSchedule to plan our 12 month editorial calendar. This helps me get organized visually. CoSchedule is one of my favorite blogging tools and is one tool every blogger needs! I can focus more on writing quality content. Be sure to check back for the next How to Monetize Your Blog update!
