G-men Nan Chuu now re-opened where Nan Chuu used to be is now G-men Nan Chuu Ramen. I was so disappointed when the Sexsmith Continental Center location was closed. I’ve been meaning to try the Alexandra Road location for some time and what a better time than to bring a good friend here to. He was like Nance, take me to somewhere exotic… Exotic ramen may not be, but for someone who has never tasted ramen it could be… Plus it is truly comforting for a rainy day! I’ve always enjoyed company of people who are adventurous and does not get turned off by trying new things. (BTW, in case you were wondering, he really liked this place!)

Little has changed from the previous operations, but being part of the Gyoza King group who has also brought you Gyoza King, Gyo-O, G-Be Izakaya and Grazy Dog you can be sure of quality. It’s always a struggle to find hearty ramen outside of Denman Street and Japan.

Problem with parking is that it is limited in the back. During dinner hours it can be quite challenging if you don’t fancy paying for street parking.

Light chicken broth (seasoned with soy sauce) much like Motomachi Shokudo 元町食堂 (click) is very flavorful and rich. Was the soup slightly too oily? Perhaps, but since I load on chili oil and minced garlic part-way thru, it really doesn’t matter too much. Besides, chicken based broth is already has a lower in fat content compared to the traditional tonkatsu (pork bone).

Overall the menu remains quite similar to the old location with a few tapas addition inherited from Nan Chuu. Price point is about $9 a bowl sans onsen egg and corn.

Torigara Shio Ramen is the light salt version and it is also very tasty…
