Tasty treats and variety is what food trucks are about. No longer do we Vancouverites have to be green eye envy to New York or even LA food truck rallies. We now, have the option to attend the Food Cart Festival Vancouver 2013 down by Olympic Village, nearby Telus World of Science and adjacent to the Cambie Street Bridge – between West 1st Ave and the seawall. Over twenty wildly popular food trucks participated every Sunday from June 23 through September 22, 2013. This food truck festival is accessible with a short walk from the Canada Line Sky Train: Olympic Village Station , Aquabus: Spyglass Place Dock, and other nearby bus stations.
Participating Food Carts:
Aussie Pie Guy
Dougie Dog (Dragon Dog $100)
Finest at Sea
The Juice Truck
Mom’s Grilled Cheese
Taser Grilled Cheese
The Reef Runner
Vij’s Railway Express
Ze Bite – A Taste of France: Ze Moroccan 10: Gluten free savory buckwheat crepe with marinated chicken, mint, hummus, tomato sauce, and mixed greens. Made fresh with a slightly crispy skin and mouth watering explosion of flavors.
Le Tiger is a food truck that will serve modern Asian cuisine such as BBQ Pulled Pork Steam Bun which reminds me of Momofuku David Chang’s Bo Ssam; Kick Ass Rice complete with fresh herbs, chili, dashi and the works; Warm “Crack: Salad which is a medley of cauliflower, brussel sprouts, lemon juice, cracked chili, capers and sprinkled parmesan. I love brussel sprouts and it is so easy to throw in the oven anytime at home.
The Juice Truck: The watermelon smoothie is a quench to the dog days of summer. Loaded with fresh watermelon, lime, strawberries, vanilla, coconut water and coconut nectar. Stay hydrated and replenish those electrolytes asap! Go visit them on the corner of Abbott / Water St and ask them about their Juice Cleanse!
Coconut Water from the international drink stand. Too bad the the juice to ice ratio was so weak. Two sips and it was gone!
Yolk’s Breakfast has me indulging in some of my dirties, most sinful desires – fried chicken and waffles. Yolk’s Breakfast will make me compromise almost anything. Those things, thoughts, and actions that separated between a low carb, high fiber, vegan friendly, clean living is thrown out the window like yesterday. The rush of that panko crusted chicken breast (juicy like a thigh) drizzled over with maple syrup and gravy have me weak at my knees. Then the chicken is sandwiched between a fluffy patties of Belgian waffles begs the question – am I in heaven? Good God, this is the breakfast for champions. A medley of sweet and savoury.
I’m so glad I went the second to last week of closing. Poor Yelp Elites during the Yelp Elite Food Cart Event was rained on – so bad that some food trucks didn’t show up! That’s a wrap! See y’all next year!
