Cafe de L’orangerie Vancouver (Marpole) | Japanese Fusion Pasta + Dessert

Cafe L Orangerie Vancouver Japanese Pasta

Cafe de L’orangerie Vancouver moved from Granville Street to Marpole area on 1320 West 73rd. This location is much better. It is less busy and there is plenty of street parking. Next door is one of my favorite Malaysian restaurant Penang Delight. Cafe de L’orangerie is Japanese, Italian, French fusion with pasta as their specialty. One of my best friend, loves coming here and would often even come alone to have some dessert. I prefer to come with a few friends so we can order a variety of dishes.

Cafe de L’orangerie has friendly staff. The food is not bad and portions are fairly big. But it is shy from the wow factor. It is good for a casual dinner. Prices are quite steep.

The restaurant has minimal décor and because of the big empty space, it can get extremely noisy when it is busy. Noise just bounces off the walls.

Masago de Creamy Spaghetti 9.80: Squid, mushroom, asparagus, roe, cream. This mentaiko spaghetti is creamy but not too saucy. I like how it isn’t too salty. I would however, like to see more mushrooms and squid. It seems to have more pasta than other ingredients.

Japanese-Style Neapolitan Spaghetti with Hamburger Steak 13.80: Ham, onion, mushroom, carrot, ketchup sauce with parmesan cheese topped with a big hamburger steak patty. This rich and cheesy dish is deep. The menu states ketchup sauce (not good of fashion tomato sauce). The pasta has a sweet taste but missing some zing.

Curry Special 14.25: Hamburger steak with 2 pieces of fried prawn. This Japanese curry is mild and comes with rice. It is a good alternative if you don’t want to eat so much wheat. Topped with a big hamburger steak patty. This one was slightly under cooked.

I guess you do save the best for last.

Zunda Dango Parfait 6.95: This Asian dessert is quite filling, not too sweet and has a lot of good stuff. Rice balls, sweet edamame bean paste, red bean, ice cream and black sugar sauce.

Cafe de L’Orangerie is alright. I won’t be running back here anytime soon – except for going next door to Penang Delight. I still prefer the good old fashion Italian pasta. Don’t mess with the Italians!
