Birds and the Beets Gastown is newly opened sandwich and salad cafe that opened at 55 Powll Street. Owners, Matthew Senecal-Junkeer and Trevor Pruegger took over the old Sea Monstr Sushi spot (across from Soft Peaks Ice Cream). We have been looking forward to this restaurant’s opening. The decor looks like something out of a Pinterest board.
I love the interior design by Simcic + Uhrich – of wood, vintage floral and greens. It is a bit like a bird sanctuary. Bill Simcic has also done projects for Timbertrain Coffee Roaster and soon to open Juniper. The menu board is gorgeous!
Birds & The Beets uses Bows x Arrows and Matchstick coffee beans. Their sandwiches like Turkey, Pork, Fish and Charred Veggies are available in both salad and sandwich options and served with pickled vegetables and fresh herbs.
FISH 11: Diced fish, celery and pickles. A refreshing light sandwich. A great lunch option albeit a little pricey.
PORK 9: sliced pork tenderloin and pickles. Tender and almost can pass for a turkey since it is so lean.
Sparkling and still water station. What a great touch to catch spills with a garden bed. Don’t forget Birds and the Beets also has an entrance at 54 Alexander Street.
