Poutine! Fries! Fish and Chips! I love portable finger foods. And I love Poutine even when I can’t finish half of it. Belgian Fries is a casual joint located on the Drive (Commercial Drive x East 3rd to be exact). Montreal is a little far for La Banquise Resto 24h (one of the best Poutine in Montreal) but at least Belgian Fries is close by. Their double fried spuds are crispy and despite dipped in oil twice it is not overly greasy!
On any day you will find families, guys watching ball, seniors, hipsters, etc… hanging out.
They have a good mix to their menu with your standard fries, poutine, fish and chips and burgers along with Granville Island beers on tap.
Tunisian Poutine 7.30 medium: cheese curds and spicy lamb Merguez sausages charred right. The gravy wasn’t too salty or bland. Only complaint I wished my cheese melted a bit more.
Fish and Chips – 2 Cod + Fries + Coleslaw & Tartar Sauce 11.50. Pretty reasonably priced dill battered fish which were crispy and not soggy. The fish had a nice flavor and was fresh. We sprinkled a lot of Cajun pepper.
Pretty standard slaw. The cabbage had a nice crunch but nothing too spectacular.
Random vinegar and condiments. The Lee Kum Kee bottles makes me question whether the owners are actually Chinese. It’s like something my mom would do to reuse and recycle.
A loyal companion waiting for his owners to finishing munching. I bet he wished he had a bone!
