Bao Chau Vietnamese Vancouver 寶珠 is located on 2717 East Hastings Street near the infamous Pulled Pork Pancake at Red Wagon, PNE and Playland. This Vietnamese Pho restaurant has been around since I was a little kid and still continues to serve up simple Vietnamese dishes such as Pho noodles, broken rice, and their infamous spring rolls. Although they no longer offer any Banh Mi (such a disappointment! They were really good), Bao Chau 寶珠 is still one of my favorite Pho places with reasonable prices.
House Special Beef Noodle: Loaded with your usual thinly sliced fatty beef and garnished with white and green onions and cilantro. A light flavorful broth.
Bun Bo Hué or Pho Bo Hué 順化泃粉: I prefer Pho noodles over Bun Noodles. It is easier for me to pick up with chopsticks and I prefer the texture more. So I ask for a substitute. The broth is mildly spicy with predominant lemongrass flavors. Very spicy chilli oil is added later into the beef broth. Now you may argue that one could pour in some chili oil found on the table side and it should be no different. Ah, but it is not. The yumminess of this broth can’t be tampered with. Loaded with Vietnamese ham and fatty beef slices and the full works. delicious. Now where can I find true Pho Bo Hué with actual pork hock?
Spring Rolls: Crispy spring rolls that is not too oily and has a nice filling but it was slightly mushy during my last visit.
Service and the food is prompt and if you are in a hurry you could be in and out less than 30 mins. There are parking spaces in the back and plenty along the street. Bao Chau Vietnamese has plenty of cheap eats for good value.
