Overall: 3

Surviving day long attractions can be painful when there aren’t many choices especially when the main food group consists of “Fast Food / Junk Food” – burgers, fries, and pizza becomes tiresome. Luckily there is Granny’s Apple Fries.

Located in the Castle Hill , beside a witch in the well, this busy little stand offers juicy apple fries sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon served with vanilla cream dipping. The whipped cream is light and not too sweet and the apple slices are tart and tangy – together refreshingly light and crispy. What a nice combo. $4.95 per serving – they are totally worth the splurge!

Be sure to come at least an hour before closing as most food establishments closes early!!

If Cali seems a bit too far just for Apple Fries, these can be easily replicated at home.

  •  Couple Granny Smith Apples, sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • sprinkle some nutmeg for more flavor complexity
  • Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat.
  • Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Sauté/bake 15 – 20 mins /until apples are tender.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream

Lift Bar Grill View is a two-story destination spot for those who loves to chill on the patio. Bottom patio wraps along the side of the restaurant while the second story enjoys a bird’s eye view. This place reminds me a lot of Georges At The Cove in La Jolla in San Diego.

When we arrived we were asked to sit inside while we requested an patio seat while there was plenty of tables available. Given the tables has not been cleared we figured the wait staff were too lazy to do the cleaning. So we waited… It is too nice of a day to be wasted indoors!

Shortly after being seats, we ordered a few drinks and appetizers to bridge our evening before dinner.

Crispy Squid and Spicy Salt $14: Lightly breaded calamari with some sliced chilies, Szechuan peppercorn, spicy salt. This reminds me of dim sum at a Chinese restaurant.

Duck Foie Gras Parfait $16: A smooth and rich foei gras served with miniature Brioche toast and seasonal relish in rhubarb.

I can’t help but to comment on the snooty waitress at serving our table. When we tried to flag her down she simply looked at us and smirked. I’m not sure what the issue is, but you really have to earn your tips. And no matter how enjoyable the food and the drinks may be or the spectacular view was, poor customer service simply ruins the whole experience.

What are some of your major restaurant turn offs? Is a spectacular view enough to compensate for average service?
