Mosquito Desserts & Champagne is one of my favorite locations for desserts in Vancouver. It is located on 32 Water Street in Gastown. The restaurant is elegant and chic. It makes for the perfect location for the best date night. Now that they have also introduced Afternoon High Tea on Sundays between 1 to 4 pm – there is another reason to simply indulge!
Proudly serving Namasthe Tea. I love the Vanilla Rooibos for its rich creamy sweet mouthfeel with honey nectar rooibos with long lingering sweet finish. It is the perfect organic, caffeine free tea. We also ordered the Echinachai Tea. This tea is a robust, full bodied black tea with cacao and raisin notes balanced with the bold spices of the masala, rounded heady Tulsi and a sweet vanilla finish.
Mosquito Dessert Afternoon High Tea Menu
Panier de Mini Madeleines: Olive Oil & Orange Blossom (freshly baked and served warm)
Onion Gruyère & Prosciutto Quiche
Smoked Sockeye Salmon & Crème Fraîche
Cucumber Mint & Cream Cheese
Tomato Mozzarella Macaron
Eclair à la Fraise: mascarpone rose crème légère, strawberry jam, micro thai basil
Miso Chocolate Tart: chocolate walnut ganache, miso butterscotch mousse, chocolate caviar
Citrus & Avocado: yuzu curd, avocado semifreddo, candied kumquat, honey yuzu foam
Haiti & Coffee: Haiti chocolate coffee mousse, mango mandarin jelly, cocoa sponge
Pistachio Raspberry Cake: raspberry crémeux, pistachio mousse, white chocolate feuilletine
The afternoon tea set is exquisite and beautifully presented. It is one of best high tea set available in Vancouver and I highly recommend you to visit. Or if you prefer having a larger slice of the cake, they are open Wednesday thru Sunday 5pm till late. Dessert, Charcuterie and Cheese plates, chocolates and macarons pairs wonderfully with their sweet wine, champagne, cocktails and beer menu.

La Mezcaleria in Gastown (and Commercial Drive) is one of my favorite Mexican joint in Vancouver. So you can imagine how excited I was when I heard La Mezcal was offering Brunch Wednesday to Sunday until 3pm! No more rushing to wake up on the […]
La Mezcaleria took over Nicli’s Next Door in Gastown at 68 East Cordova. Expanding from their Commercial Drive location, the menu will expand to allow more family style and a mezcal bar. The space itself is gorgeous – exposed brick and high ceilings. To bring the ceiling […]
Catch 122 is infamous for their affordable brunch menu with deep dish tastes. Probably a restaurant we should add to you ‘best brunch in Vancouver roundup‘. It is located on 122 West Hastings next to Wildebeest; steps away from Eastwood Cycle and Prado Cafe near Abbott. Occasionally overlooked, their menu offers #notjustbrunch.
Chef de Cuisine Jason Vallee comes from a background of Good Wolfe Kitchen (it’s too bad it has shut down) and a handful of restaurants with the Glowbal Groups. Jason has a healthy repertoire with French inspirations.
The restaurant is dark unless you are able to grab the window facing seats. The staff is fun, approachable and quick to make recommendations should you be a lost for what to order.
White Sangria: theatrical upon its arrival with an absinthe appeal to the lit brown sugar cube resting on a thin slice of lemon.
Hummus 4: a nice healthy dose of chickpeas to start the meal. Lemon pepper is bright and makes a good contrast to the big earthy profile
Fried Oysters 6: One of the two fried dishes we ordered. A crunchy batter with a juicy plumped oyster center. Not a bad start.
Fried chicken 12: Maple glazed with smoked aioli hits home with a savoury sweet bite. The chicken is tender and juicy. Tastes like dark meat.
Poached rockfish 23: I’m glad we ordered this clean but flavorful vegetable broth with a perfectly cooked filet. Heirloom carrots and vegetable barigoule, fingerlings and herb oil. I love fish in general but often shy away from your typical salmon on a bed of asparagus– because really, where’s the creativity in that?
Wagyu Sirloin 28: You had be at wagyu. Undoubtedly it is tender and cooked to our liking of medium rare. Rich peppercorn jus with lots of charred carrots, cipollini onion and potato gratin to soak up all the flavors.
Another crowd favorite is the Duck Breast. Ordering this too would be an over kill. But give it a try and let me know what you think. The duck is paired with confit croquettes, porridge, asparagus, sunchoke puree with five spice gastrique.
We wanted to order the olive oil cake. Strangely enough it is not popular and have been unfriended from the menu. Sad.
Lemon Curd 8: Our replacement dessert is the lemon curd. Perfect as hell to look at.
I was sold immediately by the photos. A good ratio of tart to sweet with lavender meringues, graham cracker fm crumbles. Whipped cream and lemon balm.
Go on, make your reservation for dinner at Catch 122. Surely if you come here often enough for brunch, you should adventure here for dinner too!

I love the big window seats at the front of the coffee shop. I love the natural light and the high chairs. It is perfect for people watching and for those cortado Instagram photos. Exposed bricks and high ceilings fill the open space. At the back there are booth seats in a ‘caboose’ like setting.
The coffee it is rich, chocolatety and has a hint of caramel smoothness. I like smooth, earthy and nutty blends. It is definitely on my every growing list of ‘best coffee shops in Vancouver’. Glad I will be working this into heavy rotation. For my guilty indulgences, they have sparkling water on tap! Something Elysian has removed from self-serve access.
Enjoy a pastry or some Matcha green tea Belgian waffles to accompany your coffee. If you prefer, they will heat it up slightly.
And after? Head down to Gastown for some shopping and transition into a nearby restaurant for dinner!
