Kai Japanese Restaurant is located in Port Coquitlam by Fremont Village (beside A&W, near Wal-mart). This new sushi bar / izakaya has only been opened for approximately four months. This new sushi restaurants offers oshi sushi (pressed sushi similar to Miku and Kishimoto). So you can imagine how excited I was to try this!
The interior is roomy and clean. Lots of booth seats, four tops and bar seats. It is baby friendly and opens seven days a week! Prices are reasonable and service is friendly. I also liked that the menu offers a variety of tapas, tempura, pan fried noodles, rolls, sashimi and oshi sushi (pressed sushi).
To start things right we ordered two Sapporo on tap.
Salmon Oshi Sushi 13: sockeye salmon, serrano pepper, kai sauce. It was tasty and comparable toto Miku and Kishimoto plus we don’t have to drive to downtown! We also really liked their Saba and albacore tuna version as well.
Few nigiri pieces we always order is saba, hotate and toro.
Grilled Skewers: We love their spicy pork skewers and chicken loaded with green onions.
Giant Bomb roll
We are happy that Kai Japanese Restaurant is now in the Fremont neighbourhood and can’t wait to go back. It’s been a long time since we’ve had an Izakaya. I also am already craving their oshi sushi pressed sushi!

It’s been a very long time since we last visited Sushi K Kamizato. Even though we live mere minutes away, we’ve been going to eat at other places in the Tri-Cities. The menu has changed a lot since they first opened. It is more concise and focused on sashimi, […]
Grand River Seafood Restaurant 濠江尚品海鮮酒家 is a Chinese restaurant located in Coquitlam (next to Silvercity Cineplex Cinemas) on 100 Schoolhouse Street. 四季 Grand Seasons Chinese Restaurant is a humble diner in Coquitlam. It is located just across from the Burquitlam SkyTrain station at 555 Clarke Road. Our friends introduced this place to us after we were complaining about eating at the same restaurants in Coquitlam Tri-Cities area. Everything was pretty promising on our first visit but then quickly declined from there on. We came here three times and probably will not go back.
Salt and Pepper Deep Fried Tofu: Crispy outside with jalapeno and garlic. Great with a side of congee.
Century Egg and Salty Pork Congee: A nice consistency of water to rice ratio in this congee. However, there was not a lot ingredients and I like Neptune Wonton’s pillowy congee base much, much more,
Stir Fry Beef Rice Noodles: A nice balance of flavour however this dish was to greasy and lacked heat from the wok.
Spicy Marinated Jelly Fish with Sliced Beef Shank: This was one of my favorite dishes. I had ordered it a few times. However, if I had to choice, I think East Pearl in Port Coquitlam does it better. Their jelly fish has a better mouth feel and bouncy texture compared to Grand Seasons which is a little soggy.
Overall, Grand Seasons is suitable for a quick bite to satisfy the hunger. They lack consistency in presentation and execution. Sometimes the fishes are still dirty with a greasy film – that alone is a deal breaker!

We finally decided to try HAAN Korean BBQ in Coquitlam after an intense craving for barbecue meat! We were not disappointed. The restaurant is clean and service is friendly. I like the interior. It also helped that it was well ventilated and you don’t leave […]
Neptune Chinese Kitchen 鳳鳴粥麵 has been opened a little under a year now at the Hard Rock Casino in Coquitlam on United Boulevard. The restaurant is spacious, baby friendly, bright but a little out of the way from city center. It is usually pretty quiet (something […]
Deer Garden Signatures 鹿園魚湯米線 finally reopened yesterday (replacing Deer Garden Restaurant 鹿園茶餐廳). Although it was sad to see our go to restaurant in PoCo close down, many welcome the casual selection of rice noodle combos, curry dishes, and HK style cafe approach.
The interior went thru a major overhaul. It looks much cleaner, brighter and spacious.
Similar to the other Deer Garden locations, the Port Coquitlam branch also allows for a lot of customizations. Starting at 11.25, the noodle combos include soup base, toppings, noodles and a drink (cold drink +$1; specialty drink $+2).
Tomatoes and pumpkins fish soup with sliced beef, bean curd and mushrooms: Deer Garden boasts that their soup base is without MSG. I’ll let you be the judge of that.

ChickenHolic Coquitlam is the newest Korean Fried Chicken joint in the TriCities. It is located just before Marmot on 1104 Austin Ave. Opened barely a month, this new restaurant can be easily dismissed. From the outside it looks dive-y. And this hole-in-the-wall menu options of […]
Ta Bom Korean Cuisine Coquitlam is currently the hottest restaurant in K-town. It is located next to Jimoco Pasta on 1046 Austin Avenue and Marmont Street. There is limited free street parking. There is no reservations. Everyone is seated first come first serve. The great thing about Tabom, they will call you when you’re seat is ready! So you can wait in the car if you wanted!
They are famous for their Hot Plates $14-15.

Jukkumi jeyuk bokkeum 15: This spicy small octopus and pork is amazingly delicious! Once the plate heats up, the egg will cook and the cheese will melt like fondue! Order Bookeum Bap near the end. The servers will stir fry the rice and seaweed directly on the hot plate for you.
Ori Yukgaejang 13: This spicy duck soup has a subtle residual heat that gets hotter as you drink it. The duck meat is tender and boneless. There are a lot of flavors in this hot soup. A lot are herbal and earthy but so delicious. I would recommend some heat reducing soup or beer to neutralize the heat in your body after!
