Crab Pot Seafood Restaurant has two locations: Seattle and Bellevue. We crossed the boarder one spontaneous Sunday just for some seafood and grocery shopping. For some reason we were craving seafood and the first place that came to mind was Crab Pot. There are […]
Din Tai Fung Dumpling House first found its claim to fame in Taipei, Taiwan. The juicy soup dumplings Xiao Long Bao 小籠包 touched many people and quickly become one of the world’s top 10 restaurants by The New York Times. It grew nationwide and even expanded to Bellevue – located in Bellevue Square.
The Bellevue Din Tai Fung Dumpling House branch is constantly busy with line ups out the door. The open kitchen concept allows us boring patrons waiting for a table to get a glimpse of the action inside. Here you will find alot of Latino chefs, something I am not used seeing wrapping those precious little dumplings. I’m sure DTF has got this under a formula.
I like the concept of checking off what you want. It saves time and it minimizes the chances of errors. The majority of staff are not Asian here. Service is always friendly and prompt.
We sat the the bar while waiting for our table. The well stocked bar has an array of libations and it even has my favorite Maccalan 25.
Sweet and Sour Spareribs 7.00: A cold appetizer of tender ribs marinated with sweet and sour syrup. Think honey and soy with some vinegar.
XLB Soup Dumpings: These were not magical. The skin was thick and there weren’t enough juicy goodness inside each dumpling. I expected wonders since this place is always talked about. I find that Shanghai Morning or Shanghai River in Richmond to be more satisfying! But of course, Din Tai Fung is one of the best XLB in Bellevue. Let’s see how it compares to then Taipei one when I go next month.
Preserved Vegetables and Shredded Pork Noodles: A light tasting broth with not a lot of flavours. The pork does not seemed to be marinated at all. Portion wise it was decent.
The Bellevue Square area offers a lot of great restaurant choices. But when you are craving some Asian food and perhaps on a lighter portion size, Din Tai Fung makes a great alternative. Just don’t expect magic or be misguided that it is one of the world’s top 10.

During our roadtrip to Portland we stayed at the Hotel Pineapple Rose – a boutique hotel at 50 SW Morrision Street. It is part of Bellevue’s Pineapple Hospitality. It acquired ownership of Hotel Fifty in downtown Portland. The 140 room hotel is renovated with […]
Cafe Crema is a coffee shop in West Vancouver next to Ambleside Park. It is conveniently located with plenty of free street parking. Cafe Crema is run by Gianniakos family that also owns Revolver in Gastown. Cafe Crema is more a neighborly coffee shop compared to its hip sister.
Cappuccino: A creamy cup espresso with good mouth feel of well portioned hot milk and steamed milk foam. I like the coffee is not acidic and does not have a lingering bitterness after taste.
Duo Sandwich: Crema has a few selection of sandwiches and wraps. We picked up a Duo Sandwich with roasted peppers, salami and cheese. It is tasty and comes warmed up. I good mid-day pick me up. Dave and I shared the sandwich just to bridge us between breakfast to our drive to Whistler for a spa day at Scandinave Spa.
Grab a cookie on the way out! They are big and soft. I love their peanut butter cookie and chocolate chips.

Often when we head down South of the border for some quality retail therapy at Premium Outlet 202, we are stranded feeling hungry. We are often not sure what is still open for dinner especially when Fast Food is not an option. There is only […]
The latest bull to enter the energy drink market is Starbucks with their latest product line called Starbucks Refreshers. The latest pick me up drinks are currently available in select retail and grocery stores in flavours of raspberry pomegranate, orange melon, and strawberry lemonade.
The company claims that their Starbucks Refreshers boast “breakthrough innovation that deliver thirst-quenching refreshment from real fruit juice and a boost of natural energy from a new source, green coffee extract”. Tapping into the $8 billion dollar market which grew at 16% over the last year, now you can too sleep less and conquer more!
This drink is made from green coffee extract from 100% Arabica beans and contains a “mild and fresh flavour while still retaining naturally occurring caffeine.”
Each Starbucks Refreshers is 60 calories per 12 fl. oz. can. Currently available in the US only.
I wonder how long before Canada adapts to this “fountain of youth”…
Aside from this Starbucks is also pushing beyond coffee and energy drinks, they are opening their first Evolution Fresh Inc. juice store (after purchasing the California based juice maker back in November for $30)! The first store debuts in Bellevue, Wash.
