0755 Restaurant and Lounge located in Richmond’s Continental Centre is often mistaken as a drinking bar. They have been opened four years and not once had I imagined that food is served. But it is actually pretty good. It is tasty and the seafood is fresh!
I was invited by ChopStick Festival along with few fellow bloggers for menu tasting.
The interior space offers two sections: dining and lounge. The dining area has bird cage booths and tables in the open space for bigger parties.
Do check out their very eccentric bathrooms lined with rose color mirrors – both inside and outside of the stalls – bathroom selfies literally just for kinkier. Please do not send me pictures thank you very much!
We started off the evening with Some drinks and cocktails. Left to right: Lychee Lick, Geisha, Mango Mojito (mango, mint, lime),Pina Colada (pineapple, coconut, milk), and Baby Dragon (dragon fruit, pineapple, watermelon, kiwi, aloe). All the drinks were pretty tasty albeit on the sweeter side.
Then moving onto appetizers.
Sweet Olive Chin-Yam: These crunchy (Sonngg) roots holds a licorise profile and was drizzled with osmanthus sauce. It is interesting and may not be everyone’s jam.
Pepper Steam Mandarin Fish: It’s funny. At first everyone was scared by the blanket or chilli peppers scattered on top of the fish. Everyone thought it would be firery. Instead, the heat was subtle and the fish was delightfully flavoured.
Spicy and Sour Beef Soup: fatty beef slices, enoki mushrooms in a spicy and sour soup. The spices offers residual heat much like this soup from Chang An.
Sauteed Pea Sprouts in Broth with Preserved Salty Eggs. Century Eggs: Snow pea leaves is one of my favorite Chinese vegetables. Served in a clear broth with century eggs and salt eggs. Goes well with rice.
Stewed Chicken Soup: Individual sized Chinese soup with lots of ingredients of Chicken, red dates, dong sum ginseng. A flavorful soup with depth.
Ice Cream Box Toast: The ice cream and toast breads are made in house. The matcha has a prominent green tea flavour and isn’t too sweet. Served with whipped cream, almond flakes and other tasty garnishes.
Coconut Pudding: Remember the whole coconut soup that I couldn’t stop raving about? Well, this coconut pudding could very well replace that! Young whole coconut is opened and drained.
The coconut water is mixed with gelatin and poured back into the coconut. It is then layered with coconut milk (also mixed with gelatin). Finally it is chilled and served with a theatrical sparkler presentation. This is a very refreshing dessert that is naturally sweet!
Overall 0755 Restaurant and Lounge surprised me. The menu is comprehensive. Even the breakfast menu looks appetizing. Think fried Chinese donut wrapped with a fried egg blanket, sweet soy milk, and dumplings!
If you are stumped and don’t know what to eat in Richmond – consider 0755 and you may be surprised too! If anything; come here for the coconut pudding!
